It would be easy to turn the power off from PowerSDR but impossible to turn
it on. As Tim states, the FireWire controller in the radio requires power

I did this and Eugene gave me a procedure for removing the old
version and reinstalling 4.05.

Well, I have done all I know to do short of using regedit, which I

find anything pertaining to VAC there. Normally products using the

I need a Y to fit the x2 socket to feed two devices.
I can find dsub Y adapters for monitors, but they are missing pins.
My eyes are too old for soldering those small pins unless I have to.
I've searched the web and only find the 2 monitor type Y connectors.
Anyone ???

The TV is on, so the remote control receiver can receive the commands
to turn on the HV, etc. (or at least, part of it is on).

Actually, a small part of it is on - constantly. This is how almost
ALL modern gadgets work, some at micropower levels so the battery
lasts. Any gadget that turns on/off by pressing a soft button is

But your TV IS on when you power it up with the remote. It is sitting

Even the Extras among us get used to using only one switch to turn a
radio on/off. The "official" way to startup a SDR-1000 requires a 3
step process. Ref: p. 130 SDR-1000 Operating Manual V 1.8.

The problem is that the FLEX-5000 has to be on to control it since the
control cable is Firewire. When the power is off, the device (radio)
does not exist as far as Windows is concerned.
There are other (and better) ways to turn power on and off remotely
using TCP/IP

David,
I'm not a practicing engineer, but I always thought Noise
power=10*log BW. So the noise power in a 10hz filter was 10 times
that in a 1Hz reference. Tell me what I am thinking of.
