Love the new 5000, but need some expertises on proper procedure on
turning the Flex-5000 off.
I turn the rig on while the computer has already been idle. (I never
turn pc off) I wait to hear the computer to recognize the radio before

Your procedure is correct. Do you have an ATU installed?
BTW, I never turn off the F5K unless there is a thunderstorm (wishful
thinking in NC these days). If it is on when the PC boots up, that is
OK too.
