Dave:
I have talked to others who hear better when there is a little white
noise outside of the desired range but my tests are conclusive.
At 160 through 6 meters, the minimum discernible signal is within .2 dB
of a fixed number at 256 point buffers through 4096 buffers.
Irrespective of this,
This is an extremely interesting observation and does merit further
study. In theory, there should be no more insertion loss at the longer
buffer lengths. I will run some tests and help figure this out.

Hi guys
With the discussion about flexwire devices controlling antenna
switching, etc. just thought I would discuss what I have implemented.
Larry Phipps at www.telepostinc.com sells a board called LP-remote
which is originally designed for remote operation of your rig. It has:

I can get the receive to work, but not the transmit.

Whenever you see a 5000a for sale, chill (unless you are excited

For those who wonder, I do not think that you will have negative
surprises with the 5000a. Especially for those who have had a sdr1k.

Rob,
I think you are over-simplifying things when you mention only art and
thanklessness! A few minutes ago I received the first comments on a several
thousand page manual I wrote for a fifty million dollar machine that is in
Moscow. I thought I'd completed it last January. Only today have I

Joe,
I'll be glad to help as I can.
Clear tech writing is an art and pretty much thankless...
I wasn't trying so much to complain as pass on some information.
Let's chat a bit more off the reflector...

Thanks for your help. I have the power working right now.
I bought my SDR1K on Ebay. The guy who sold it had the gain settings way
to low. As a result, when I first tried the drive setting, it over drove
the amp almost immediately. Scared the be jabbers out of me!
Thanks again.
Bob, one of the reasons we can enjoy
these amazing radios for a fraction
of the cost is due to the unselfish
contributions of the many volunteers.
A big thank you to all who have helped!

Bob,
Your question about the "tech writing staff" leads me to believe that it is
possible that you never tried to start a business or if you did it was with
unusually large capital backing! I only wish that such "volunteers" had
existed that I could have called upon! I doubt very much that any

Ken,
I'm sure you realize you can't be a frequent contributor to the reflector,
be one of the first to get the Flex-5000A and not explain to the world why
you want to sell it! Failure to supply an explanation would fly in the
face of all natural law!
Please!

I don't understand why Flex Radio uses a "volunteer" labor force to generate

Hi Rob,
please, if you find anything on the manual, send it directly to me. I am the
volunteer author of the manuals and I know that the SDR-1K manual is out of
date, but there are only so many hours in a day that I can spend on this
project - again as a volunteer.
The FLEX-5K manual is pretty
