Best to have a laptop with a Express slot , so that you can change the FireWire
adapter if and when the FW port may fail. Over 50% of the built-in FW chipsets
will not work or not supported by the FW driver and if they fail you will have
to replace the motherboard in the laptop.

I would suggest going to Tiger Direct or Amazon and searching for a
reconditionedHP with Firewire port. They are a dime a dozen with Win 7 on
them. I have bought(3) reconditioned laptops with fire wire port. They all

Just curious, what do people do who have laptops that don't have
firewire, PCMCIA or ExpressCard ports? I'd be interested in a Flex-3000
but my laptop has only USB. I can't remember the last time I saw a
laptop with anything but USB.
