Make sure you click on the "Show processes from all users" button on the task manager window. Usually there are a bunch of hidden processes. Example: Many virus protection programs do optimize tasks at the worst time. Recent Nvidia video drivers like to download game previews in the background. Usually its bad drivers (out of date drivers). What chipset is in the Abocom firewire card?
