Oh no. Do not set the AGC to fixed in digi modes. PowerSDR has the most advanced dual attack AGC algorithm of any radio. The algorithm was developed based on Phil's paper on the subject http://support.flex-radio.com/Downloads.aspx?id=98 Refer to the second paragraph in section 1.1 regarding fixed AGC and distortion with direct conversion receivers, of which the FLEX-x000 is one.
What ever you learned regarding setup on a traditional, legacy type radio is not necessarily how it works with a SDR. Case in point. The s-meter always reads the actual signal power integrated in the RX passband no matter what the AGC-T settings are set for. My Icom's s-meter changes with changes in RF gain. The AF control does not have anything to do with gain levels when running in DIGx modes using the VAC channels. -Tim -----Original Message----- From: flexradio-boun...@flex-radio.biz [mailto:flexradio-boun...@flex-radio.biz] On Behalf Of Drax Felton Sent: Sunday, March 28, 2010 6:36 AM To: 'Dudley Hurry' Cc: flexradio@flex-radio.biz Subject: [Flexradio] AGC and Digital Modes I thought he was referring to HDR calibration. No, I'm not going anyplace near the Flex calibration! My AGC-T was set at 90, now 70, but I do have the AGC set as Fixed (off) because I read someplace that digital modes should be run with fast or AGC OFF. Does this hold true with the FlexRadio? Does the AF control have any effect on the VAC. I wouldn't think so. -----Original Message----- From: Dudley Hurry [mailto:jhu...@austin.rr.com] Sent: Sunday, March 28, 2010 12:51 AM To: Drax Felton Cc: 'Neal Campbell'; flexradio@flex-radio.biz Subject: Re: [Flexradio] OK now PSK31 weirdness Drax, Best not to get into the calibration menus unless you know what you are doing and really need to. Check your audio and AGC-T gain levels, they both have an effect on the audio level going to VAC. You usually do not need to run the AGC-T gain past 70 or 80 . 73, Dudley WA5QPZ _______________________________________________ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kc.flex-radio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flex-radio.com/ _______________________________________________ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kc.flex-radio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flex-radio.com/
