For my FlexPedition to Bequia (J8K2CM) I took my Dell dual core laptop
with me along with the F3K.  Everything worked right out of the box;
however, I had problems with the realtime anti-virus scan hogging the
system causing my word processor, my spreadsheet, internet, and PSDR to
hang periodically. I disabled the RT file scan, and all worked without
issue.

Initially I blamed the problems on the wireless internet; but, by trial
and error traced the problem to the anti-virus RT file scan.

On Bequia, I had N1MM logger running, internet spotting, internet news,
as well as PSDR. I was able to run the F3K and PSDR (1.18.2) for a day
at a time without any issues.

The brick wall filtering, on CW, was absolutely astounding. I got
frustrated due the pileups that I generated; but, Tim and Dudley
suggested that I narrow the passband to 50 HZ, and slowly tune through
the mess. That worked like a charm. The signals popped up one at a
time.

I ran into some problems with RF getting into the laptop which I fixed
by putting RF cores on the laptop power supply in/out cables, as well as
on all cables that went into the laptop. The issue was that there was
no place to get an RF ground....except to use the ground rod for the
phone system. The soil was very dry, so I didn't chance using that
ground rod. Next time I do this I will place a "counterpoise" on the
ground as suggested by Dudley.

For the station in the shack, I use a home built quad core system with
an F5K and PSDR (1.18.2), with RT file scan disabled. It too runs N1MM
logging, internet spotting, internet, and PSDR. I initially had some
driver bugs that caused problems 15 months ago; but, those bugs have
long been corrected.

The stability of the software, at this point in time, is such that any
ham that can use a computer should be able to load the software and get
his Flex up and running in a few minutes! It is not a requirement to be
a software Guru.
