I don't have a Shuttle Pro, but I've had this problem before with a USB device. I discovered that the device needs constant power via the USB port and that the power management for the port wasn't set up right. You have to go to the Hardware tab under System Properties, click on Device Manager, go to the University Serial Bus Controller list, right-click on the USB Root Hub items one at a time (there may be several), click the Power Management tab of each, make sure the box "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is not checked. You might also click on the Power tab and see what it says there too. I'm not saying this is the problem. It was for me for a different device with the same symptoms. I no longer experience those symptoms.
