I disagree that the 5000 audio is bad. I run both radios and they are fed with a common microphone through a mixer. They both sound about the same when I slightly tweak the eq. I run a PR-40, large diapghragm condensor, small element condensor and a whole bunch of other mikes. I can make them sound as good "or as bad" as I want!!!??

The guys that I've talked to on the 5000 that sounded good were running very ,very expensive mics. The guys running Heil mics had typical communications sounding audio and you could no doubt hear the distortion. The 1000 doesn't really care. Most any mic sounds good on the 1000.
