Yesterday I tweaked the Services using the list from Neil I found in the archives. It did not fix the problems.

Today I flashed the Bios (was VER: 0206) to V0601 and just started to test. The first program I loaded after FLEX hung PSDR. I tried a second time loading the program and it hung again. After this it appeared stable (much more than before). I did some Explorer browsing and that appeared ok. I will let it run 24 hours catching pictures with MMSTV and will give an updated report later.

Thanks for the Help.

John,

There are several things you can try. First off, contact Neal directly. He
may have an immediate fix for that system.

Second, update the motherboard drivers, chipset drivers and the BIOS. Some
mobos had bad DPC problems until a BIOS update was done. You may have to
contact ASUS and tell them about the long duration DPCs.

Turn off disk indexing or Microsoft Search 4.0.

Make sure that the power management settings are set for max performance.

Good luck finding the culprite.

Using a new install of WinXP (32bit) and having PSDR (v1.18.2) hang problems due to long DPC's.
It does this when loading programs or browsing with File Exporer

The motherboard is an Asus M2A74-AM (same as Neil's system). The Firewire card has it's own IRQ.

Cannot find the IRQ for the Sata hard drive

Wondering if the SATA somehow is causing the problem.....

Anybody with suggestions?

John

What bios version are you using? The latest is 0601. You also need to modify
all of the services that I mentioned in my email a while back (seach the
archives and see if you can find it).

To completely tune it, you can follow the tweaking tips at
www.tweakhound.com.

I spend about an hour building a system and about 3 hours tweaking,
installing and configuring all of the software.
