I finally have been able to get the rear key jack to work on my 5000A. It is
the same solution offered in the knowledge base at
http://kb.flex-radio.com/article.aspx?id=10487.

The solution is the Begali version of the microHam Paddle Processor –
Debouncer. The Begali version has a ¼” TRS plug on the output (rig) end and
a 1/8” TRS plug on the input (key) end. It matches the jacks perfectly. I
inadvertently chose 1/8” jacks on my keys.

I had the microHam debouncer sitting around even before getting the 5000A,
but could never get it to. I was able to fix it after few emails to
microHam. The problem was the strain relief on the ¼” shorting out the
leads. Now I can use my keys without any problems (so far) through the rear
key jack. And my PCs serial port is now free.
