/The basic set up of the SDR is not more difficult than

Thats one opinion ...and everyones entitled :) so here's mine

The Flex system consists of _hardware_ AND _software_. The hardware was
not difficult_ for me_ (hard is a relative term) but I have been around
electronics all my life including many radios etc. There was ALSO a
connection in my case, between the radio and a USB port, that gave me
trouble at the beginning with RF on the line and I kept losing the
connection and the USB driver would error out....a vicious circle that
took a couple of hours to finally rectify.

Then there is the SOFTWARE! You know, as in Software Defined Radio!
This would take a manual's worth here for my experiences in the last few
months...so i will just say...
EVERYTHING needs to be set...and there are a ton of things to set... and
calibrate and experiment with ...some turn out good...some not so good.
It is part of the fun for me.... but you must read the manual and
although it will not take as long to get on the air as a K2 you probably
will not be on ragchewing... in the first hour.
In my case I had to build cords and didn't get it working properly for a
week....many interfaces and things to tweak
(I bought a second IC7000 the other day and had it out of the box and on
the air in 10 mins.._its an appliance_...the _Flex is the Future of
Radio_...Big Difference!)
 Plug and Play? Afraid not.
You must calibrate your frequency regularly...or you will be off. ( I
have had mine for 4 months and it needs recalibrating regularly.)
I have yet to get a handle on the ANF.. (it isn't automatic...lol) I
wont Rant here about that.
Then there is 48, 96 and 192KB ...do you know what that means? you
better :) I have noticed that alot of my settings change if I change
between those... and many other critical elements to this software. Is
this for Appliance Operators? Please....
----_ I AM_ an appliance operator at times.. Sometimes I just wanna
grab the IC7000 or TS2000 and plug a powercord, mic and ant in...hit the
tune and go.
I am also an Appliance Op when using amps...I do not wanna work on a
tube amp Ever again...although I keep on doing it from time to time
cause resistors, diodes and caps go out...oh my. With the Flex?...you
aren't locked into what some engineer told you ...you Must Have in your
radio.
The skys the limit and changes daily!

The Flex is modern day Spark Gap
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spark-gap_transmitter> folks...it ain't
for the faint of heart ...but thats part of the fun

and thats just my opinion...i could be wrong

rock on
