I noticed that the least bit of extra CPU/Bus activity can cause the sounds to stutter after our switch to OpenAL. This might be a reason to remain conservative with our sound files (e.g. 8bit Mono). This is especially noticable on my system with the 16bit/44khz/Stereo merlin sample with the Spitfire.
