It's not an easy challenge to get different parties' expectations under one single hood, but things look promising. Still a huge pile of things to do, progress is slow but steady. As a first obviously _visble_ effect of what we're trying to prepare, the Landcover DB has found a new home: http://flightgear.telascience.org/ .... also known as: http://mapserver.flightgear.org/ The contents is largely the same as before (some layer names have seen closer specification, other VMap1 layers, that have been empty before, now contain data). Special thanks go to John Graham and Norman Vine for their support - not only by providing the computing resources but notably by endorsing the whole idea.
