Purpose: CanVec aims to provide a standardized and up to date representation of topographical phenomena for the entire Canadian landmass. Supplemental Information: This product is subject to Discrepancies processing provided by the Centre for Topographic Information from Natural Resources Canada. A discrepancy is defined as any deviation from the product's Standards and Specifications. To explore the status of discrepancies related this dataset, see the Discrepancies Web Site from the Centre for Topographic Information (http://www.ctis.nrcan.gc.ca/cit/servlet/CIT/site_id=01&page_id=1-005-010.html). This approach ensures the conceptual consistency between the conceptual schema and the CanVec product. - Domain Consistency The domain of values included in the Feature catalogue are all recorded and validated in the source database containing the CanVec product. This approach ensures the domain consistency between the Feature catalogue and the CanVec product. - Format Consistency The use of well-established commercial software to generate distribution formats ensures format consistency for CanVec product distribution. - Topological Consistency Topological relationships between (and within) entities are all recorded and validated in the source database for each CanVec dataset. This approach ensures topological consistency between the Feature catalogue and the CanVec product. Completeness Report: - Commission The data quality assessment (including completeness and thematic accuracy) is directly performed during the data production process. The validation method applied depends on the data source used. CanVec data come from 2 different sources: GeoBase initiative (ex: National Road Network (NRN) data) and Natural Resources Canada digital topographic data. For GeoBase initiative data, data quality is ensured by the producer (and partner). The validation mechanism used may vary from one partner to another. For Natural Resources Canada data, during data inspection, datasets are produced into distinct batches. A few datasets are selected from each batch and inspected in order to check their contents and compare them to a data source used in production or another independent source. If the percentage of error detected is less than 5 %, then all datasets in the batch are normally considered acceptable. - Omission The methodology describe to evaluate the "Commission" is also applied to verify the omissions within the CanVec product. Positional Accuracy: Horizontal Positional Accuracy: Horizontal Positional Accuracy Report: The CanVec product comes from the Geospatial Database (GDB) which is built from multiple data sources. The dataset horizontal positional accuracy assessment is related to these data sources. However, the overall dataset horizontal positional accuracy cannot be assessed. The maximum and the minimum horizontal accuracy values extracted from all sources in the dataset are provided when available. Quantitative Horizontal Positional Accuracy Assessment: Horizontal Positional Accuracy Value: 1 Horizontal Positional Accuracy Explanation: Minimum horizontal positional accuracy of the data source in meters. Quantitative Horizontal Positional Accuracy Assessment: Horizontal Positional Accuracy Value: 21 Horizontal Positional Accuracy Explanation: Maximum horizontal positional accuracy of the data source in meters. Vertical Positional Accuracy: Vertical Positional Accuracy Report: The CanVec product comes from the Geospatial Database (BDG) which is built from multiple data sources. The dataset vertical positional accuracy assessment is related to these data sources. However, the overall dataset vertical positional accuracy cannot be assessed. The maximum and the minimum vertical accuracy values extracted from all sources in the dataset are provided when available. Quantitative Vertical Positional Accuracy Assessment: Vertical Positional Accuracy Value: 10 Vertical Positional Accuracy Explanation: Minimum vertical positional accuracy of the data source in meters. The CanVec product is created from the Geospatial Data Base (GDB). The GDB is a corporate data warehouse containing mainly many types of Canadian vector topographical data. The BDG is managed and maintained by Natural Resources Canada. Main transformation applied to the GDB source data when creating CanVec product: - Selection of a subset of entities The BDG is composed of more than a hundred entities and a subset (about sixty) of topographical features is selected to be a part of CanVec product. The CanVec Feature Catalogue identifies the complete list of entities in CanVec product. French version of the metadata XML file is not valid as it does not always respect domain values for all fields which are sometimes only available in English. The French version is issued mainly for display purposes. User must ensure to validate metadata against the XML schema English version. __________________________________________________________________ Yahoo!
