Is it possible you have an older version of FOP checked out and didn't do a
build clean? That's about the only thing I can think of that might be
causing that ambiguous class error. I will try a clean build using Xalan2
from CVS and see what happens.

1) I reproduced the problem with jakarta-avalon xdocs and fixed it.
jakarta-avalon-phoenix looks to be be the same problem as jakarta-avalon
xdocs, also jakarta-avalon-cornerstone.
2) 2 problems that kept xml-xalan dist from building are fixed.
