After making the entry to interfaces, You have to manually restart the
networking.
First Stop the Networking
:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/networking stop
Restart the Networking
:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/networking start

I also faced the same problem, and my network-teacher solved the
problem, all he did was made an entry for interface. Here is example.
$:cat /etc/network/interfaces
[output]
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

Krishna,
You do have three options.
1. User any FTP server software like vsftp, proftp or filezilla
2. Use Samba tools for providing windows CIFS share (like in normal windows)
3. Use both 1 and 2 so that client can use any option as they want.
