A couple of other points to note with the ABstation

1. It is physically attached to the PLC-5. Therefore, although you may
engineer your software so that the box is a "passive" interface, if there
is a problem with the ABstation, your going to have to shut down the PLC-5
to replace the ABstation.
2. Currently, we have worked with Foxboro for approximately 2 years on a
problem that we are having with one (of 4) of our ABstations. The problem
is that the ABstation stops sending alarm messages. So, after a while, no
PLC derived alarms are sent to the WPs! Foxboro development has been on site
and claims that they now understand the problem but we are still waiting for
a fix. We have also worked with them to develop about three other quick
fixes. We don't understand why only one of our stations exhibits this problem
but, after identifying the problem, Foxboro has said it is a problem with
all ABstations.
3. We have since chosen the initegrator 30 for our immediate plc
communication standard. I'm not saying "don't buy one, I'm only suggesting
that you consider these issues"

One point about the micro I/A solution...
This seems like a good approach that could overcome some of the communication
limitations of the INI30. Realize that this is a Version 6.2 product and I was
told there were not many (any) "in the field"

for what it's worth.
