Hi Rick,
we installed FrameMaker 7.2 on a Vista Home Premium laptop (2 GB) of one
of our technical writers last year. The issues we have had so far:
* User Access Control (UAC) did not allow us to change files in
c:\program files, for example maker.ini. We disabled UAC.

There was a change in the style used for all our headings, from numbered
sections to non-numbered.
One results is that we need to reapply all the cross-reference styles.
So far we have been doing it manually.
Am I missing something?

Hi Fred
There are no hyperlinks that refer to FrameMaker files. The weird thing
is that Distiller appears to trigger the opening and saving of the
chapters of *ANY* frame book that happens to be open when the distilling
completes.

Hi Denise,
Thank you very much. That solved the problem.
Rick
Rick,
I am at work (an XP system), not at home on my Vista system. However, if I
remember correctly, right-click on the patch install file. From properties, one
of the tabs says something like run as XP.
Best,
Deni
Yes InDesign ME (Middle Eastern) version does Arabic and Hebrew.

Hi Framers,
I installed FrameMaker 7.2 successfully on a Vista Home Premium laptop. I
wasn't able to install either of the FrameMaker 7.2 patches because of
errors with the installers. Does anyone have any extensive experience with
FrameMaker 7.2 and Vista? Are there any issues to be aware of?
FrameMaker does not support RTL languages. I think there is a version of
InDesign that does.

Hi Harold,
The $paratag[FormatName] building blocks work in cross-references, but they
don't work in indexes or tables of contents.

I have recently upgraded to FrameMaker 8.0 and am having a strange
problem when saving a book as PDF.
When I save the book as PDF, the process continues as usual until the
end of the distilling process (converting the PS file to PDF). At this
point, the Distiller status box reads "Relocating files

English and Hebrew (RTL language) - The hebrew is converted into just lines

I figure this is unlikely, but does anyone have a method for automating file
name generation from within FrameMaker?
For example:
Let's say I have a document that has a "Paying Customer" version and a "Sneak
Preview" version, with certain key information deleted for the benefit of
tire-kickers

David,
You should get the FindChangeSpecial plugin from Rick Quatro. It allows
you to map a cross-reference format to another one. I've used it
extensively and it has saved me hours of painstaking labor.
Check it out at

Hi, all.
Very slight change of topic (but kinda related):
Can anyone comment on their experiences with FrameMaker 8 (not 7.2) on
Vista? Does it work as well as on XP?
I was about to do that installation (on a second laptop that only runs
Vista) and realized that I better ask about it first! :)

Tom,
Do you have:
1. Cells that are straddled in the column you are trying to re-sort, or
2. Cells that are vertically straddled outside the sort columns but
could result in those rows being in a different order?
