The $20 ImportFormatsSpecial plugin lets you import reference pages by
themselves. It also lets you import a bunch of other items separately. It's
very useful!

Have you tried using My Computer > Folder Options > File Types to manually
change the icon associated with PDF files? It's showing up correctly on the
mapped drive because it's set properly on that machine, but is not set properly
on your machine. Here are some pretty clear instruction
