I know how to update the generated TOC file for
Hello Morgan,
Have you properly set up the support for Simplified Chinese on your OS,
assuming it is not already localized in Simplified Chinese? I'm also curious
about the workflow that your translator has used to create the Chinese FM
files? (I use the MIF - S-Tagger - Font Mapper route, it
Hi Wei Jiang,
We are investigating whether or not it is possible to exchange XML files
with our translators and take on the formatting in FrameMaker ourselves.
Our translators currently convert our FrameMaker files to MIF and run it
through their translation software. They then take the result
Now I know what you meant. It seems to be a font issue. You should use a
Simplified Chinese font, such as SimSun/SongTi. If this font is not available,
you can also try Arial Unicode MS, which is a catch-all font default to be
installed on all versions of Windows OS.

Hi Rick,
I hear you. We've been using conditions on xrefs for some time with no
problems. All of other projects use them without a hitch, which leads me to
believe this is some kind of file corruption.
From our troubleshooting, we've noticed that it has something to do with

One possible way to do this is: you search and see all the documents, select
them all and right click and select "Combine supported files in Acrobat". You
will get a combined PDF file, whose page count you can easily see in Acrobat. I
have assumed that you have Acrobat properly installed.

Hello, Framers,

Hi Morgan,
You need to specify the Character Encoding in the XML file and also the Display
Encoding in FrameMaker. The Structure Application Developer Reference explains
this on pages 24 and 25.

Hello Morgan and Richard,
Formatting requires almost no language skills. I have formatted tens
of thousands of pages in 30 or so languages, and have not needed a
