Thanks Lea, Robert and others who have responded. There seems to be three
schools of thought.
1 CD with a startup/menu screen and grouped files
2 CD with huge file for copying to hard drive (current practice here)
3 Product resides on a USB
I reckon I could have 1&2 combined

You are right--manually inserting hundreds of graphics is better than
setting up a character tag or table tag and changing a letter to show the
desired button.
I my mind, I see it easier to put all the buttons in one font (not one
font per butto
rforce to do a "merge" so all changes get into
the main files.

Not to my knowledge. To merge in a source-control system, the source
files must be in a text format, such as DocBook, DITA XML, or MadCap
Flare's proprietary XHTML.

Creating a custom dingbat font for the icons could work if you were
delivering PDF.
It would be problematic for help formats that use the client's fonts.
Your authoring tool would have to convert the dingbats to images.

I'm using FM 10, but need to expand capacity and had a co-worker install FM
11. When we open our .XML files the characters are ignored or
dropped by FM 11. Works fine in FM10.
We installed the 11.0.2.384 patch. I see an old post on the Abobe forum
about FM 9 using for a tab, but 0009 works fi

I need to make accessible PDFs. I'm using FM 10.
There are two things I need to do:
1. Have each heading be tagged "en-us".
2. Have ALT tags for each graphics.
The second item we've figured out (the Graphics->Options item), but how do
we do #1?
