And there are several FrameScripts out there that purge all catalogs for a
squeaky-clean import without any overlooked tags.

If the paragraph/character tag names are all the same in the new
template, you can select all the files in the book and then import the
formats. Any formats that are the same name will be overwritten. Any in
the old document that don't exist in the new template, will be left
untouched, and any
The right way to do it is to have all paragraph and character tags have the

Hello everyone,
Using Framemaker 2015 (latest patch 2 installed) on Windows we experience
constant crashes when importing text insets. The book and frame files are not
legacy files, they were created in Framemaker 2015. Yes, our path is quite deep
but when we copy the complete setup and test
Import formats is bookwide.
You would import all formats for all files in a book.
The problem is that all of the paragraph and character tags need to have
exactly the same name.
If this is the case, why would you manually delete all tags and formats?

What is the best way to replace on template with another using only
FrameMaker 12?
Can it be done bookwide?
As of now I manually delete all tags and formats and do an Import
Formats, and it works, but it is cumbersome and prone to errors. Can it
be done otherwise?
