Hello:
I'm about to update templates to use simple, sequential page numbering,
rather than chapter-pagenum in our books.
Of course, that's a number of definitional updates, one of which I so
dislike is the cross-ref formats.
Is there any tool (such as IXgen for index markers) or tricak that
I never thanked all for their help. Just recently, I read the article
from Kevin Siegel's Weekly Skills and Drills about NOT remembering fonts.
When I opened the docs with that setting, and saved them, and reset the DO
remember fonts, Frame conveniently forgot all about the missing items.

Hello:
I know FM8 uses unicode, rather than PS fonts as before, but in an entire
group of 10+ writers, some of us are getting font errors, and some are
not, now that we're all using the ATCS.
Further, many of the errors are for things like Helvetica, which is there
anyway!
Is there a pointe
Two questions regarding the Adobe TW suite, which I'm evaluating.
I played around with Adobe Captivate to create a small flash file
desribing screen motions in my application.
I wanted to add a "Show Me" link in my Frame doc. But, the only way I
found to do that was to
include the movie in a
Hello:
Downloaded the trial of the TechComm Suite this week, and started working
on a book immediately (need the RoboHelp section).
I noticed that all our "infrastructure" ptags, preceded with a tilde
(~tablefooter), are now showing up at the top of the catalog, rather than
the end of it. An
Thanks very much Rebecca/all.
Unwanted conditions, and other components, seem to be beyond anything that
Adobe thinks would be good to address.
Add-ons sound like a reasonable solution.

Hi Kanti
Hello Austin:
Could this be your problem, taken from the Microtype FM8 bug list (
http://www.microtype.com/FM_bugs.html):
Cross-file links in PDFs authored in FrameMaker 8.0 use Unicode-encoded
file paths and file names, which are only supported in Windows

Hello all:
Thanks for great input.
Ran more tests yesterday in which I removed all char formatting with
IXgen/FM6, then reopened/saved in FM8 and
generated the book: all was well.
Also, book that was crashing in FM8 definitely survived without our IX
template. BUT: the generic index maintai
Hi Diane:
I plan to do that before further testing (late today). Thanks much.

Kamti,
Hard to say without looking at the template. Have you installed the 8.0.1
patch? It fixes a lot
Alan: forgot to ask whether this "nasty FM8 bug" is just in indexes, or do
char formats mess up elsewhere?

Hello Alan (and Kelly)
Kelly: your book's symptoms are exactly the same as mine: an unformatted
index (I believe) survives.
Alan: I shall check the char formats, but that's a good possibility.
Thanks.
Does anyone know if this has been reported? I've been having difficulty
finding anything
Hello all:
I'm just testing FM 8 for our group: we are still using FM6.
In two tests with existing books, the first (a long doc plan w/several
chapters), opened and built fine.
The next book (a user manual with index) crashes frame consistently.
Narrowed this down to the index. Even removi
Sorry if this is a repeat, but for a great Text Editor: Crimson is very
powerful and easy to use for
