We bought FM 2017 in May 2017, so I'm sure we'll have to pay to upgrade.
But is it worth it? If I knew doing so would resolve the
annoying quirks I've had to deal with, it might be.
What Robert says. One of the features of '19 is a new PDF engine, which may
make a difference for your problem.

upgrade just to find out the quirks still exist.
