I agree. What I was describing was a vector file that contained a PNG, and

PNG is a raster format. It can't contain vector image data. (Adobe
Fireworks used the PNG extension but included a lot of incompatible
stuff.)
Most vector file formats can also contain bitmaps. It used to be
common that users didn't understand why EPS images looked terrible in
FrameMaker, where th

Yeson second look I see that it's not actually vector...just one of the
better PNGs I've seen.
Thanks everyone.

So, I am not sure what format your illustrator actually provided!

No idea what your illustrator gave you, but a PNG is not a vector format.
Like JPG, it is a raster format.
See here for an explanation of the differences:

during the publication process? Is there a way to make Frame not rasterize

JPG will not work for vector output - it is a bitmapped format.
Try SVG if your imaging tool will support that output format.

WMF and EMF are also vector formats. I use WMF.

the webpage is zoom in. As I understand things, a vector image will work
for this. How do I make a vector image with text? I've made vector text
in Photoshop and Illustrator, but when I save it to JPG it doesn't work as
