Deirdre,
Doens't renaming Word's default Heading# styles just to accomodate hinky
numbering kind of defeat the purpose of using the default headings to easily
generate TOCs and using outline view (well, that is one thing that is missing
in FM!)?

I highly recommended using Sequential fields for numbering in Word. Read
the one page in Word's help on Sequential fields. Then use the Tech-Tav
macros (free) to quickly insert them.

Hi all:
Someone, I think named Albert, asked for the Autonumbering Workshop
I've been sending to people. The email has disappeared.
So if you asked for the workshop and haven't received it, let me know.
Thanks so much to everyone for their very nice comments about the workshop.

A further few references of the oldie-but-goodie variety. You may well
find the principles useful even though some things about Word have
changed over the years.

Also, in Word, you can lock documents to force users to use only the
formatting you specifiy in a document.

An excellent description of the "right" way to use Word's autonumbering
is available courtesy of Shauna Kelly. Here's the page on outline
numbering, but she has similar pages on bullets, single-level lists, and
many other Word features.

And as another poster replied, it's essential that everyone who touches a Word
doc knows how to handle the numbering (and uses the same Word template).

Hi:
I've had a number people ask for the workshop, and I've sent it on.
The workshop is for formatting Headings 1 through 9.
I will be writing up the directions for formatting other levels, such
as 1., (1), a., (a), etc.
The concepts are exactly the same, so if you get the Heading 1 - 9

Hi Lester and all:
I have a workshop put together. If you'd like me to send it to you
off-list, please email me and I will forward to you.
