Hi all,

As I mentioned before, every time I started up FrameMaker it would crash. I
have an update on my situation. Unfortunately, its not good news. I ended up
reformatting my computer and never isolated the cause of the problem
definitively. I am not sure if this was a sui generis incident that I was
just unlucky enough to encounter or whether the new adobe update was the
culprit. Can anyone who has installed the update let me know if you
experienced any problems? I'll eventually have to consider installing that
update again and I want to be on my guard. So in a nutshell here's what
happened.

1. I system restored my computer to yesterday when everything was working
fine. Didn't fix anything.
2. I performed a check disk scan. That didn't do anything either.
3. Then, I realize that my mcafee antivirus software was acting really
oddly. There was some sort of corruption in the files. Now its possible,
though I am not sure how, that whatever was wrong with mcafee was causing
the crashing in FrameMaker while leaving every other program on my computer
alone.
4. After several hours with internal tech support, I somewhat fixed the
mcafee problems though the issue was never truly resolved.
5. I completely uninstalled and reinstalled FrameMaker and Acrobat. I made
sure that ALL the patches were removed from FrameMaker before I uninstalled
it. That still didn't fix the problem.

And since Adobe technical support is a hell I would not wish on anyone AND i
don't have a customer support contract because my company will not purchase
one, I realized I was stuck. I talked to my IT guy and he agreed that we
should reformat. So I am not sure who to blame. Mcafee is perhaps one of the
most awful software products I have ever encountered in my life. I find it
quite believable that some mcafee update broke FrameMaker. On the other
hand, it is very suspicious that this issue occurred right after that adobe
update, especially since my framemaker install has been stable for an entire
year. I'll let everyone know what happens after I get my system back up and
running.

Oui, what a day :(

Sincerely,
Joseph Lorenzini
