Precision made clever modular synchronizers and I am pretty sure they made a 16
mm optical module. You could attach multiple modules of different formats as
needed.

That would work with reversal film, but a black frame cut into negative printed
onto positive stock will print as white, or clear. Not what you want.

But the camera's design is closer to a Hasselblad. The newer Sony F5 solves
that but costs 4x more.
