The 50th Ann Arbor Film Festival begins next week, March 27 - April 1st.
We will be showing over 230 films in nearly 50 programs over 6 days.
Filmmakers presenting programs of their work include Phil Solomon,
Barbara Hammer, Craig Baldwin, Peter Rose, Paul Clipson and Michael
Robinson.
Bruce Baillie will be in attendance for three retrospective programs
of his films, he will be joined by author Scott MacDonald.
A program of historic films from past editions of the AAFF will be
curated and presented by Kathy Geritz. Irina Leimbacher has guest
curated a program of films from the Arabic world, and a program of
films by Syrian documentary filmmaker Omar Amiralay (1944-2011).
Tomonari Nishikawa will present two programs surveying Japanese avant
garde films from 1970s-2000s; and Mark Toscano will present a program
of films by Robert Nelson.
Leighton Pierce will be attendance and give a talk about his major new
video installation which will be exhibited during the Festival. Phil
Solomon's three-channel video installation  American Falls will be
seen during the Festival week.
The Festival will include new films by Betzy Bromberg, Sarah J.
Christman, Gabriel Abrantes & Daniel Schmidt, Jennifer Reeder,
Telcosystems, Rei Hayama, Hope Tucker, Laura Heit, Simone Rapisarda
Casanova and many, many others.
Historic works from the past five decades of the AAFF will be
presented throughout the Festival including films by Matthew
Buckingham, James Herbert, Stephanie Barber, Ira Sachs, Jordan Belson,
Pat O'Neill, Greta Snider, George Kuchar, Karen Aqua and Owen Land
among others.
