Please share this with anyone you think would be interested. thanks and best, Anna FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 7, 2014 Contact: Anna Brady Nuse, an...@pentacle.org, 646-535-8062 Pentacle, in partnership with Beacon Project Space (aka Beacon Yoga) presents *Kinetic Cinema*a series of dance film screenings and workshops Saturday May 31st, 2014 Saturday June 7th, 2014 Saturday June 14th, 2014 Saturday June 28th, 2014 Screenings start at 2pm Workshops run 11am-1pm Pentacle, a not-for-profit management support organization for dance, is pleased to bring its dance film series, Kinetic Cinema to Beacon for four screenings and workshops in late May and June. *Kinetic Cinema* is a series in which guest artists are invited to show dance films and videos that have been influential to their own work. From motion capture animation to Michael Jackson music videos, from Gene Kelly musicals to Kenneth Anger films, Kinetic Cinema is dedicated to the recognition and appreciation for "moving" pictures. Pentacle has presented these evenings for the past five years throughout New York City and is currently running the series at Spectacle Theatre in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. In Beacon, *Kinetic Cinema* will feature three acclaimed artists working at the intersection of dance and film. On May 31st, *Gabrielle Lansner* will show her emotionally-charged and story-driven dance films, including a sneak peek at her latest work made in the Hudson Valley. On June 7th, *Victoria Sendra* will show her improvisatory dance films and discuss her unique approach to shooting dance. On June 14th, music documentarian, *Derrick Belcham* will present his latest collaborative films made with choreographers and musicians including Sarah Neufield (Arcade Fire), Skye Skjelset (Fleet Foxes), and contemporary choreographers Miguel Guitierrez, Melanie Maar, and Emily Terndrup. The June 28th screening will feature new works made by the participants of the Kinetic Cinema workshops as well as work selected by Kinetic Cinema curator, *Anna Brady Nuse*. All screenings are open to the public. The Kinetic Cinema workshop series is open to ten participants ages 14 and up to learn the process of making a dance film. Each session will cover a different aspect of filming dance, and participants will make their own short film to be screened on June 28th. The sessions will be led by the guest artists and co-facilitated by Anna Brady Nuse. *Workshop Sessions:* May 31st: Gabrielle Lansner will give a history and overview of dance film concepts. Participants will practice framing movement with the camera and learn approaches to planning and story-boarding a dance film. June 7th: Victoria Sendra will give camera and movement exercises. After going over their storyboards, participants will team up and go outside to shoot their films. June 14th: Derrick Belcham will introduce editing techniques as it pertains to dance videos. Participants will create edit plans for their films and practice using editing software. June 29th: For the final session, participants will meet up with Anna Brady Nuse to review their edits, make final tweaks, and prep their videos for screening. We are happy to help you find equipment you can use or borrow for the workshops.
