I need a little help diagnosing a problem booting a 5.1-RELEASE SMP kernel.
The GENERIC kernel boots just fine. When I boot a GENERIC kernel with SMP
enabled the boot fails early in the boot process. The text from the
console is below:

I'm hoping this will be a simple question to answer, so here goes.
Whenever I try to mount a cdrom I get the following:

This is the first time since adopting 5.0 that I've tried to do anything with my cd
drive and I'm finding it impossible to work with. First, I installed ripit so that I
could convert a couple CD's to mp3's. This fails with:
