Hello,
to me, I found that the easiest solution was to use ppp startup
script instead of /etc/rc.conf.
You should take a look at /etc/ppp/ppp.linkup and /etc/ppp/ip-up files
depending on your setup.

Do you mean that the ppp startup script starts running before the
named startup script starts running, but doesn't finish
