Given the port will need to be redone when this new feature is released, I
would like to proceed, with your approval, with the two slave ports as an
interim measure.
This will all be redundant once ruby FLAVORs are in.
Thank you.

Sergey,
We have a need to use rubygem-passenger with both Nginx and with Apache (on
different servers).
I propose to create two new slave ports:
* www/rubygem-passenger-nginx
* www/rubygem-passenger-passenger
To do this, I would like to make a one-line change to the master port:

After some surgery, math/R is in more manageable shape. But, the surgery broke
two slave ports, math/libR and math/libRmath. They have each been marked
broken since June or July and I posted to ports@ about deleting them, but
didn't get a response.

Is this a good case for slave port ?
Slave ports are not documented in porter handbook and I'm not sure how
they work and when used.
Thanks.
A slave port is a minor modification of the port to support different
functions. E.g. security/ssh-guard has slightly different builds, all fro

Hello,
I want to add to existing port another one for the same program, but
with different git branch and (possibly) with slightly different
dependencies. Is this a good case for slave port ?
Slave ports are not documented in porter handbook and I'm not sure how
they work and when
My proposal would be that the master port offers the options to link
against: none/ATLAS/openBLAS/netlib and that slave ports follow suit. Does
that sound reasonable?

Hi all,
I am working on some upgrades to the Makefile of math/R and I have found
that there are two slave ports depending on it: math/libR and
math/libRmath. Now I have some questions about how slave ports should be
handled.
As it stands, the master port will only set some options *if* it is the

I'm trying to update the port pair net/libtorrent-rasterbar and
net/libtorrent-rasterbar-python (slave port of net/libtorrent-rasterbar)
from 0.16.17 to 1.0.2 because that is the latest stable release. I've never
updated a port before, but found this tutorial

So everything comes down to using the first method you mention; create
lazarus-qt and lazarus-gtk2 slave ports and select the right one with
an options setting from my port.

There are some ports under net-p2p that have qt and gtk slave ports. A

Hello,
I am in the process of making a new port of some application, but I
have a problem with dependencies. The building process of this port
depends in some other port. The problem is they must be built with the
same options (GTK2 or QT in this case).
I have been told the answer for this may be

Hey all,
Apparently if you define something in make.conf that slave ports also
define, then a generated INDEX becomes useless...
http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=ports/162088
Basically, jpeg2ps-a4 -slave port of-> jpeg2ps-letter which defines
A4=yes, and turns jpeg2ps into jpeg2ps
Hi dinoex.
I revamped graphics/xv, graphics/xv-m17n and japanese/xv ports.
I did separate these ports, and add CONFLICTS. In current case,
xv was compiled twice. And I confirmed MAKE_JOBS_SAFE.
