Appaulingly slow DNS resolution from gnome apps

Hi, I'm getting a nasty problem with Gnome 2.6 on 4.10-RELEASE. Any apps with a GTK2 UI (evolution, firefox) are having real issues doing DNS lookups. They time out regularly. Nslookup on the same hosts is instant. Anyone seen this or know how to fix it? Thanks all, - Chris. ___

ata cdrom mount problems compaq pws 5000

Hi, I have a compaq Professional workstation 5000 (dual ppro 200 ... based on a proliant rig). Whenever I try to mount the (ATA) cdrom, the mount process hangs, I get a dead cd9660 process I can't kill -9 and the kernel chucks out ATA timeout messages forever meaning a reboot to silence it. It w
