concerning Rev
6, that it uses the nve driver but I'm a little uncertain since the
Rev.7 hardware compatibility list doesn't mention the 88E1116.

a 2 CD set but the process is the same for 3, just include an extra step to

I wonder if it's a hardware related issue with that particular drive. I think
I might have a Mitsumi CD writer I could install as a temporary test in place
of the Pioneer.

I'm using 2 different slices on the same drive.
The only thing I could
think may possibly be an issue is the FreeBSD Boot Manager.
I'm using grub so perhaps I'm a bit safer in that respect.

Yes, I had the same problem with make buildworld in 6.3, and posted here

was under the impression that I
would need to install the AMD64 version of FreeBSD for an Athlon 64 but I now
understand that since I'll only have 1 or 2 GB of memory I might just as well
use i386 in which case I'll have the choice of using either the xorg or
Nvidia driver.

ports were very heavy going, with kdepim taking 11 hours to compile.
Admittedly it is a lot of bloat but I've never regretted switching from MS
Windows to FreeBSD, despite the tedious portupgrades.
