Sorry this hasn't been made clear, seems that the list is dropping some of my emails, but this issue has been solved. I'll post the answer here and hopefully the list will pick it up this time (or at least deliver it to me so I know it's been delivered):

I didn't realize that Apache takes the path from getpwent(). I now have Apache configured and working properly. As for the user:group setting, that was something Apache set itself when installed (non-ports version, since the ports version wouldn't start for me with even just the default httpd.conf and no edits at all).
