Hmmm, I may just reinstall. I updated KDE, GNOME, XFCE, jpeg, and png to
the latest versions, and the desktops just won't start. I think I will
just reinstall.

rebuild all ports that linked against them. Take a look at
ports/UPDATING for portupgrade syntax.
