I recently installed 5.1-RELEASE - I was previously using 5.0.
When I had 5.0, I could easily boot FBSD from GRUB using these settings
in my Linux's /boot/grub/menu.lst file:
title FreeBSD
root (hd0,1,a)
kernel /boot/loader
boot

If that is the only reason to use grub, try osbsbeta.exe that is in the
tools directory of your CDROM or ftp.freebsd.org.

I'm fighting with the same problem and found that grub *does* recognize

That fits perfectly to the following paragraph found in the 5.0-RELEASE

I am, however, not using UFS2.

Hi all,
i'm experiencing problems with the installation of the GRUB bootloader. I have
installed the port (grub version 0.92) and created the /boot/grub directory
with the files from /usr/local/share/grub/i381-freebsd. Next I created a

3. I created a menu.lst file under /boot/gru
Ok, thanks for all the responses..looks like Grub is not a problem.
Anything must be better than the way I am currently booting one of my systems that
has 6 OS'es on it :)

Hello,
A simple question. Does the bootloader grub work well with FreeBSD ?
I see it in the ports, but it does not appear on the advertised list of
OS'es it can support as far as I can see. If anyone uses it out there
can they say if there are any "gotcha's" please.

OK, my system has two hds:
Primary Master: 40gig
Primary Slave: 20 gig
I want to install XP on the first 20gig of the Master, Redhat 8.0 on
the remaining 20gig of the Master and FreeBSD on the entire 20gig of
the Slave. What would be my best options for being able to boot all 3.
I heard grub
