sysctl documentation

where can i find documentation for sysctl variables, mostly vfs.* ? or it it's nonexistant, where can i look for info? While FreeBSD gives best performance in every case i tested (compared to other BSD's and linux) it doesn't mean it can't be faster after some tuning.
