Repeated panics... in the serial code ?

We have a number of RELENG_4 boxes that are dumping core with crash dumps generally in the same place. Unfortunately, we are not sure just yet how to repeat the dump and sometimes we do not get a full dump as the hardware watchdog interrupts the dump process :(. The boxes are running a 4 port
