My understanding is that the locks (and pieces of kernel code) involved are
different.
Maybe someone more knowledgeable than I am can comment.
Thanks for the suggestion...

I don't know if this is relevant or not, but I deadlock was recently
fixed in the VFS code:

Dear All,
Still experiencing the same hangs I reported earlier with 9.1. I've been
running a kernel with WITNESS enabled to provide more information.
During an occurrence of the hang, running show alllocks gave

Dear All
It turns out that reverting to an older version of the mps driver did not
fix the ZFS hangs I've been struggling with in 9.1 and 9-STABLE after all
(they just took a bit longer to occur again, possibly just by chance). I

I have also down graded to the MPS driver from 9.0. We've been
running the server pretty heavily since then and no lockups have
occurred since. It has been about a week.

This doesn't quite make sense. In your original email, you said that
you're using a mpt-based Fibre Channel card and have a ZFS filesystem on
top of that.
If that's the case, why would going back to an older version of the mps(4)
driver change things at all? It has no support for that hardware.
I need to do this as well. Can you give me a quick primer on the
commands you used to revert to the earlier driver?

For what it's worth, I think I might have solved my problem by reverting to
an older version of the mps driver. I checked out a recent version of

Thanks. I'll be sure to follow your suggestions next time this happens.
I have a naive question/suggestion though. I see from browsing past
discussions on ZFS problems that it has been suggested a number of times
that problems that appear to originate in ZFS in fact come from lower
layers; in part

I'm having similar issues after upgrading to 9.1-RC2 and RC3. I'm not
using either NFS or a ZIL.

Hi all
After upgrading from 9.0-RELEASE to 9.1-PRERELEASE #0 r243679 I'm having
severe problems with NFS sharing of a ZFS volume. nfsd appears to hang at
random times (between once every couple hours to once every two days) while
accessing a ZFS volume, and the only way I have found of resolving th
