Note that I haven't mounted the camera before disconnecting, so it's probably
not the 'frequently reported problem' described on Jeremy Chadwick's wiki
page.
Any further ideas on how to debug such problem?

Regarding this problem...
I really need to get my backups going again and the server hanging every
night because of backup is not good at all. Hence my question - is it
likely that the problem is caused by something particular to this
brand/model of drive, which FreeBSD 6.3 just doesn't like?

It seems that pr/107495 didn't make it into FreeBSD 6.3-RELEASE. I wonder
if it will ever be MFC-d to RELENG_6?
