A minor update to HIMEM64, next release slated to be "the" HIMEM, is available in the directory at ftp://ftp.devoresoftware.com/downloads via ftp or direct link with most browsers. The files are HIMEM64.ZIP, containing uncompressed HIMEM64.EXE and HIMEM64S.ZIP, contain the modified source file HIMEM64.ASM.
The patch is designed to increase compatibility with older software which isn't >64M aware, as reported by Eric Auer. Some of those programs cannot handle the highest possible return value of 64M-1K (value 0ffffh) under the older XMS 2.0-level 'query XMS memory' function (function 8) and will assume no XMS is available or otherwise misbehave. The patch reduces maximum XMS memory returned by the XMS 2.0 'query XMS memory' function to 63M-64K (value 0fbc0h). If you have an older piece of software which has had problems recognizing XMS memory under the latest HIMEM64, you might want to try this version. The XMS 3.0-level 'query XMS memory' function (function 88h) continues to return the full range of XMS memory through 4G. This patch will be an "official" part of next HIMEM release. ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by: IBM Linux Tutorials Free Linux tutorial presented by Daniel Robbins, President and CEO of GenToo technologies.
