Referring to: "Wordstar 7 archive« Indeed, this is interesting. I was in contact with Eric Meyer, who created the VDE Text editor for DOS. (I have version 197 - which seems to be the latest version he did.) It is not only a very well and stable working editor, but has really useful functions and is quit slim. One file, and one settings-exe (VDEinst)
As its repository on google was closed, I told Eric I would want to do a repository on my webspace. He agreed to that. Are there many writers out there who created such archives of their favorite editor? It is good to see how other people do such an archive for still useful software, especially when running on FreeDOS. (bare metal). When I read Robert J. Sawyer’s page on his wordstar 7 archive, I thought - also regarding the VDE Editor) - that most of those pieces of software (word-processors mainly) include a lot of code only for then working printers. A pity this periphery is gone - and most probably it is a waste of time to try to make those codes and printers work again (unless you got a vintage printer at home). I wonder how much other bits of the code is dedicated to now obsolete periphery or processes? NB.I hope to do the VDE Editor archive in September … in case anyone is interested. Comments welcome.
