Cannot Run configure

When I tried running configure I got the below error message.   ./configure loading cache ./config.cache checking for gcc... gcc checking whether the C compiler (gcc  ) works... no configure: error: installation or configuration problem: C compiler cannot creat e executables.   Any advise please.   Regards, Salah
