You pull the authentication information (i.e. password) FROM MySQL.
You do NOT authenticate the user TO the mySQL server.
The 'authenticate' section in the server is meant to authenticate

and put driver = "rlm_sql_mysql" in sql.conf file

When starting my newly compiled(freeradius-0.5) radius server I get this
radiusd: Starting - reading configuration files ...
radiusd: radiusd.conf: "SQL" modules aren't allowed in 'authenticate'
sections -- they have no such method.
When running ./configure --help
I see no option to
