Library Problem seems to be everywhere in 1.0.1 :-)
Stefan Neis suggested as response to my question:

hmm, this is recurring :-)
yes, it would be nice if it would be fixed :-)
Stefan Neis answer to my question about the same problem:

./configure | grep rlm_myname = is it in or not?

sorry for starting a sidetrack, but you implicitly indicate that you
compiled CVS pre 1.0.2 successfully under Solaris, especially
the libltdl directory.
Well, we tried several pre-1.0.2 and I think several others, too
and it seems many got into the same trouble with libltdl.
I think some people
Do you know how to compile pre 1.0.2? (I really have problems!)
Here is how to get 1.0.0 and 1.0.1 to work on Sol 8 / 9.
Requirements:
gcc, gdbm, gmake, libiconv, openssh, openssl, tcp_wrappers, zlib
pkg_get (for openldap)
/etc/profile or /.profile
PATH=/opt/csw/bin:$PATH

somehow two lines did not make it into the doc:
./configure.sh
should contain two more entries:
--with-ltdl-lib=/opt/csw/share/libtool/libltdl
--with-ltdl-include=/opt/csw/share/libtool/libltdl
or wherever find / -name ltdl.* finds the .h file.

Thank you. Good point. Anyway, editing necessary.
Looking more into Make.inc I found a few strange things:
freeradius 1.0.1 compiles fine, but pre1.0.2 does not.
Especially those lib (libltdl and such) are defined different
in pre1.0.2 compared to 1.0.1 ... and again the only
way out seems to
not answering all your questions, but some:
peap, mschapv2 and Cisco aironet works all fine with each other.
we used linux and solaris LDAP with this setup and (except for
a 64-bit bug for Solaris, according to Paul Hampson) the rest
works, build straight from scratch.
Windows XP should be SP2,
ahm, we used CVS one week ago, and it seems
a path for make is broken (see earlier post).
What we could accomplish: swap configure from
1.0.1 over to pre 1.0.2 and make worked. We also
tried to replace relative path to libtld with absolute
path and it seemd to compile.
Does configure and
my work around has been to replace all
relative paths to libltdl with absolute paths.
Another attempt was to replace the configure
with the configure from 1.0.1
Not sure whether this is correct way.
I hope current CVS compiles fine, trying soon.

maybe same problem on Solaris:
changing to libltdl directory and doing there
configure / make results in file not found
which can be fixed by copying the Makefile
of Stable 1.0.1 into that libltdl directory and
doing the make: the subdir compiles fine.
Similar, editing the Makefile and replacing
in case you are using WinXP with less than SP2
or Win2003 Server your problem is windows.
WinXP needs SP1 and a patch from MS or SP2.
Win2003 Server only works with commercial third
party SW.
Works fine here.

Sorry for the long subject :-)
Have spent a few days on this setup and learned a lot from your mailinglist
(thank you, Alan and everybody else) but I think there is a problem not
covered, yet, between Solaris and Linux compiled code (?). Long story:
