It is context dependent. When the output is the volume, it does volume
smoothing. When the output is the surface, it does surface smoothing.
The surface smoothing is better for surfaces because it excludes
non-gray tissue types and does not smooth across gyri/sulci. How much
better? I don't h

Hi
I'm not sure if or when FS will have OpenCL support. Notice that not all
recon-all steps are GPU ready yet.
I wouldn't invest now in Tesla platform. Try the 280 or 480 model instead.
Cheers

Yes, I know, but will Freesurfer support ATI Stream and maybe OpenCL in the
near future? OpenCL should be something that could run both on ATI and
Nvidia GPUs.
And then again, is it a good idea to invest money in Nvidia Tesla cards?
Cheers,

Hi Nick (and others),
do you already have positive experience with ATI cards, too? We think about
buying a new workstation with lots of GPU power so it would be great help to
know what really pays off: GeForce GTX 480 or ATI Radeon HD 5870? Or should
we go for Nvidia Tesla? What kind of tech specs
Hi, there,
I am using VirtualBoxFS45 now, everything is fine.
But I find that after I load the FSVirtualBox.vdi, the default storage space is
about 8GB.
I'd like to use FreeSurfer to run multiple subjects (about 100), and then do
group analysis using QDEC, however the
8GB disk space limit wil
Hi,
In version 5.0 it is mentioned that "- fwhm-surf" is obsolete (I know it

Hi Guang,
the error message implies you probably do not have access to those

you have admin access, you can probably do something like

The sudo command will prompt you type the root password.

Hi, there,
I am using VirtualBox45 now.
After I installed it, I tested it using tkmedit and tksurfer command,
everything looks ok.
However, when I try to run a recon-all command, it fails at the mris_volmask
step, the error mask I got is:
"mris_volmask.bin: error while loading shared librari
Dear freesurferers
I have faced a problem in editing pial surface in trouble shootings. Since
the page https://surfer.nmr.mgh.harvard.edu/fswiki/FsTutorial/PialEdits has
showed how to delete volume which is really useful, however, we faced
another problem, that is how to add volume. I selected the
