With v4.0.5, the g77 installation is no longer necessary. Freesurfer is
built against a static libg2c lib.

Actually is Pedro Paulo, but no problem.
I'm not sure if Fortran Libraries were static linked in 4.0.5
So just in case try installing this.

You should install the Leopard version if you have 10.5. Here's the
